A Time

Dear diary...
Is it okay to reminisce
when times are hard?
Those challenging voices
knocking on our door,
places we loved aren't
there anymore, they're
wrapped secrets to grasp
in palms and cherish,
for you are my muse,
warm comfort blanket of arms
to wrap around old age,
like autumn we've arrived at
our resting place, blessed that
we've come this far,
beside you I leave behind
wailing of tenuous thoughts,
our sunny days of life maybe
sinking low over horizon,
as I act out in my head over
and over the many scenes
of distant living dreams,
fragments like golden leaves
that come and go, leaving me
richer for having known you,
if I could choose the perfect place
it would be two garden chairs,
a table under canopy of vines,
Indian lanterns placed on rocks
adorning fishpond's tranquil peace,
where fountain springs then plunges
with a splash, bringing you and I
much happiness,
closed eyes, listen! Hear
magical pearls sprinkling by starlight,
soothing nights awaiting glimmer
of summer's balmy rapture...
sleepily floating hazily like
drifters on cider and wine,
laughing at silent bloom of stars
within yawning distance of new moon,
in this dappled infinity
we did not need a compass
for cosmos, we were happily
marooned in our harbour.
You point to universe making wishes
as celestial bodies shoots across sky
like lizard's tongue, its mystery kindled
our imagination, contemplating highest heaven,
moments overflowing like water
cascading over rocks with ease
to reach a babbling brook,
we too rambled seeking inner child...
racing down paths with
no fear in our hearts,
just the innocent gentle breathing
when art of growing was learning to take a tumble,
if we'd slipped with scraped dirty knees
we'd be too curious to shed tears,
instead we'd be off like a bullet
just grateful to slip into seemingly
rescued sweeps of stretched imagination,
where gnarled trees became
fire breathing dragons
we would need to fight.
Now gone those yesterdays
to darkest graves, in our
equilibrium another passage saved,
we are mapping future...fulfilling dreams
in forest and wood, along
well trodden ridge-way paths,
then home to dream,
swallowed by a journey into rest.

I love this Jenny, full of beautiful lines. So lovely, in fact, that it's not really possible to highlight any over any of the others which is quite a feat in a long poem. I will come back to read many times, I'm sure. :)

I really enjoyed this Jenny.
I really enjoyed this Jenny. I especially love the description of your perfect place, it sounds wonderful and somewhere you could visit in your mind whenever you need to de-stress. We worry so much about the passage of time but what would we be without it.

Bittersweet is the thread of
Bittersweet is the thread of time connecting past to present while awaiting journey's end. The words you've written twinkle and shimmer in the distance of well lived moments but sorrow lives in the reminiscence, squeezes the heart as aging takes us all further from those happy youthful imageries into the autumn of life. Your poem carefully laid out the beauty of the journey and the desire within us all to never lose it.
A Lovely poem and one that will provoke timeless memories for all readers as it did for me.
Thank you for sharing this - golden cherries well deserved!

That's such a brilliant idea,
That's such a brilliant idea, places not there anymore being like a present secret you can't unwrap!
These lines are beautiful:
"like autumn we've arrived at
our resting place, blessed"
and
"golden leaves
that come and go, leaving me
richer for having known you"
and
"magical pearls sprinkling by starlight,
soothing nights awaiting glimmer"
"this dappled infinity"
"moments overflowing like water
cascading over rocks with ease"
and
"we are mapping future...fulfilling dreams
in forest and wood, along
well trodden ridge-way paths,
then home to dream,
swallowed by a journey into rest."
This is the most beautiful love poem I have ever read I think
