A enormous, dazzling statue,
awesome, and frightening:
head of gold, pure gold,
chest and arms of silver,
middle and thighs of bronze,
legs of iron,
feet part iron, part baked clay;

but

he saw a rock cut out,
not by human hands –
it struck the statue
on its feet of iron and clay,
and smashed them;

the iron, the clay,
the bronze, the silver,
and the gold
were broken to pieces
and became like chaff
swept away by the wind, and gone.

The rock became a huge mountain
and filled the earth.

Kingdoms will arise,
one after another,
but the God of heaven
will set up a kingdom that will
crush those kingdoms,
and bring them to an end,
but will itself never be destroyed
and will endure for ever.

(Based on Daniel chapter 2 in the Old Testament: King Nebuchadnezzar is troubled, but learns the biggest hope).

Hi, thanks. I hadn't thought of this in relation to the present crisis, but certainly all things are in God's hands and aren't 'out of control' though individually we have to go through varying degrees of suffering. May we all learn that he is 'an ever present help in trouble', and turn back to honour and trust in him.

Nebuchadnezzar's dream was pointing to him that though he had such earthly power, his wasn't the power and kingdom that would last, and he must honour the overall King, and should be a 'good' king. Rhiannon

I had the same dream a few times exactly, the statue always fell over into a large pool of water. Always as I was waking up. It was a terrible time there was no hope it was all suffering and desperation really life was torture but I gradually recovered happiness and faith and strength in God's mercy everlasting.

The point in Nebuchadnezzar's dream is that human schemes, authorities and powers will not last for ever, but God's kingdom will, so it should be so reassuring to the believer, shouldn't it? But Satan loves to create fear and confusion, and to keep us frantically trying to trust in other things, instead of his mercy and strength.

So glad you came through that difficult time. Rhiannon
