Trapped in An Episode of SURVIVOR!

Survival, a word I previously associated with a TV show. One I’d never watched because I’m not much of a ‘live or die’ type and didn’t want to see others struggle with it either. Alone in the wilds, when they didn’t have to be there, made no sense to me but I know some people love that adrenaline rush and I accept that, maybe even applauded their confidence to pit themselves against the odds of the elements. I applaud it but I'd never want to do it.
I don’t have that fearless drive, I'm afraid of a lot. Oh, I’ve had my moments of risk taking. I’ve skied down a mountain, but it was a small, very small, ok beginner’s mountain with a rope pull up to the top, a ski lift wasn't necessary. It was well lit and had plenty of instructors to help if your skies crossed wrong and you got stuck but, regardless of that, I’m proud to say I skied, once in my life. I’ve also risked life and limb riding horse back many times, but it was on a mapped trail for only one hour through a city park, a large city park, but a park. I've ice skated, risking a harsh fall on ice, but not on a frozen pond where I might fall through thin ice and truly risk life. No, I've only skated on solid water, frozen over concrete, smack dab in the middle of town, that’s mid-town, as in New York City, actually at Rockefeller Center's ice skating rink.
I'd have to say the most fearsome of all things I’ve ever done is, flown in a plane. Now, this I rate highest on my fear gauge, due to the unknown factor of the plane getting there, always my biggest fear when I fly and takes a lot of calm mediation to ignore. So you see, I have to admit, I am not at all a risk taker.
I'm a, stay close to home, with a good book that can take me to exotic locals. The story can drop me, by imagination only, into adrenaline twisted plots while I'm comfy in my ‘jammies, sipping a hot tea. Of course, a plot with enough drama or mystery to give me chills or thrills till the story ends is no real life risk, but I've never needed or wanted the equivalent, which brings me to my point.
Obviously, I never place myself in harms way but suddenly, I feel as if I am living in my own episode of SURVIVOR! And I am so ill equipped for this script.
Outside, I have no navigational sense of who to steer clear of, so I walk near no one, trust no one. I have no idea what the very air I breathe in may hold, so I cover my nose and mouth until the script writer tells me the alien ingredient has disappeared. I wear gloves too, because all I touch is suspect. There are others in the cast with me and they are as fearful as I am on the set. We walk as if we are in a pin ball game, bouncing away from each other when a six foot distance is breached.
This episode of Survivor I’m currently trapped in, is running way over production too and I'm not sure when this season will end but now I’ve been told….there may even be a sequel.

And....Cut!
And....Cut!
Scary times indeed, no casting couch, no auditions, we get the part without much merit and just have to get on and do our scenes.
I'm terrified of the end of season and even more terrified of the sequel.
See here in Britain we're all pulled out of the womb by our stiff upper lip --- but, people have done their bit. they've been nice to people, and the elderly and the NHS .. .we've done it, and it was fun for a while, but now were getting sick of it. there is more traffic on the roads every day and more people in the shops .... we won't wear it a second time. I fear the second wave is going to be more fearsome than the first ... because those who aren't dead have already survived it once--it will make them brave.
Loved this, thanks for the read.

I enjoyed this too. I love a good apocalypse in general, but I must say that the reality of panic buying, an invisible enemy (or mugger if you're Boris Johnson!) and isolation are not living up to the fantasy at all. I think you have neatly summed up the predicament of all us in this, all trapped in our own episodes. Rachel :)
