Murder, lawlessness and pain,
the strong abuse the weak again,
warfare, rape and earthquake, flood;
— but now we’ve news of someone doing good.

Unfaithfulness, and shoddy wares,
broken families, health scares,
robbery and famine, bombs;
— but look at this camera watching nesting swans.

Cowboy builders, repairs all fake,
harshness to leader confessing his mistake,
pushers pushing drugs and dope;
— conscientious teachers helping children cope.

Anger, malice disturbed and wild,
and here’s a tragedy for an unborn child,
shooting, mugging, civil war;
— this neighbour reached out to loneliness next door.

Rumours and slander spreading dirt,
drunkenness, and helpers hurt,
A&E filled with revellers’ fight;
— dedicated nurses work on all night.

We do need something to reassure us that everything isn't completely bleak.  I discovered live streams from an elephant sanctuary in Mozambique and a watering hole in a national park in Tanzania, and even when the 'main attractions' aren't about it's lovely to just see the birds and the smaller wildlife.  They have their own lives and don't give a stuff what a mess we're making of ours.

Thanks. We were impressed with Springwatch this year focusing on the benefit of many in lockdown having the time and peace to notice, and enjoyment and distraction from little things in nature all around them. More sensitive to beauty and peace.  The presenters too seemed to be calmer and appreciating the opportunity and time to watch the detail in their own areas/'back garden'. And of course, there are stimulating stories of those quietly helping others.. Rhiannon

People seem to be fascinated by bad news. You have one line good news for three bad ones here, yes that's about the balance but I think there actually must be a lot more on the good side. Taken for granted.

Thanks, Yes, or just not noticed, and then depression at all the bad news can discourage from doing what good one can sometimes. People don't want to trumpet their kind deeds, but seeing one can stimulate others to be helpful, even when inconvenient! And certainly, count our blessings, with great thankfulness And pray concerning all the bad news we hear. Rhiannon
