For Miranda

For Miranda
picture me as Whistler’s Mother,
arranged in black and grey
watching a magic-lantern shadow-show
‘recherche du temps perdu’
us meandering hidden lanes
taking our donkey-drawn
open-lot bow top
across to Ireland
Galway campfires
you on mandolin
me on guitar
duetting wistful evening songs
fresh laid eggs for breakfast
cooking on a Queenie
busking days in Athenry
I grew dreadlocks
(your raven hair ran wild and free)
swapping trinkets
(wristbands, dream catchers)
for punts and pennies
drinking in Mrs Dowling’s Bar
our two children,
nearly three – a sad miscarry,
loved the woodland cabin
outside Kilkenny
bequeathed to us
by ‘Frenchie’ Phelan
‘in perpetuity’
so many old friends dropping in,
“just passing, wondering how you’re doing?”
staying all summer
dancing crazy at the Friday night ceilidh
banjaxing their livers
with ‘black’ and Paddy
skinny dipping in the river
(Harry from Norwich lost his Rolex)
sunbathing naked
when the rain abated
so many full-moon nights
of loving together
ageing together
greying together
our bodies failing together
so very nearly,
almost perfectly,
one in spirit and in soul.

Miranda
I have always pictured Miranda as a gypsy,
When I looked into your eyes I saw the crazy gypsy in your soul, I will never be a stranger and I will never be alone, wherever we are together my love is home. You are my fortress my palace my cabin and my castle wherever I will be with you is my home.

Both are genius
Both are genius, Van Morrison (George Ivan) and Bob Dylan (Robert Zimmerman) respectfully. It always surprises me how many people are seriously into both as their work differs radically. These two artists are my all-time greatest musicians.
Singer and poet they are for real. Both are christian and express deep romantic love, between a man and woman, or between man and spiritual, as God. Sometimes often both types together and you cannot really tell which. It seems they regard these types of love as the same.
I think you will actually find Billy Joel also good music. There is also depth and sincerity.
I like the poem Hermit! Tom Brown
