To Have Known You

Dear diary: after dreaming
of a friend I once knew,
this memory of 1972 came back to me.
Monday 11th January 2021.
Long lost friend
I dreamed
of you last night,
we never spoke...
but when I awoke
for a moment
I was back there,
recalling our nomad
time together
if just for a while,
living on mushrooms
and blackberries one
very long hot summer,
feeling wet sand
beneath our feet:
you skimming pebbles
while I watched on
unaware of others chatter;
blissful eyes remember
that cheeky smile,
when a new
adventure danced in
your intrepid mind,
I too felt your elation
at teenage adulation;
we had all the time
in the world with no
care at what lie ahead,
this girl always felt secure
marooned with you:
we'd cast all our cares away,
though roads were long
distance never mattered,
when young there's always
a brand new day to take us away.
Slip of stone pillows
for our sun kissed heads,
perched on rock formation
sealed by the sea
so gracefully calm,
a sky full of hope for
that summer was long,
optimistic under canvas
our escapism would surge
like flow of tide.
Then after dark when
friends ran wild:
sessions of music
played in our heads,
powered by gifted
charismatic voice
that shone like
candlelight...intoxicating
as consuming a fine red wine.
But now those memories
are just a vapour trail
lost in the mists of time,
savage crumbling of
places where we'd gather,
years of progress means
they've vanished forever,
but not forgotten by me.

A lovely nostalgic poem, Jenny. Memories can be so precious, and I enjoyed reading about these.

Really enjoyed this
Really enjoyed this remembrance of things past. I liked how the cadence repeats the way memories move through the mind. Well deserved PoD.

Another good one
It only seems I get to one or two of yours on days I publish one of mine. I will try to get on here one day and and only read, without writing. Another good one, Jenny

Hi Jenny
Hi Jenny
I really enjoyed reading this. And have shared that same sort of experience, dreaming of a long ago time with friends, many no longer alive, but still alive and valued in my memory and dreams.
