I am 

a fruit cake.

I have 

good ideas

but I never 

act on them.

They dry out 

and are preserved

in a sweet 

syrup of optimism.

There are

always more,

indeed I am 

quite packed full

with wrinkled, 

infertile drupe.

Verily, I feel 

quite droopy.

 

And then 

there are the nuts;

they sink 

to the bottom

but their 

volatile potential

is alway 

palpable to me.

Though, mostly 

indetectable

to others who 

find me boring,

Dry and

rather dense.

They usually 

need a drink

to wash me down.

It's a good solid cake, lasts well and will sustain you far longer than a lemon meringue pie (which I know you are not).

I like the belligerence of the first line :0)

I have been called this several times at work in the past :0) First time, I didn't realise it was not a compliment. Because fruit cake is wonderful (not mine though as it always sinks)

If your poems were a fruit cake,  there would be

bright cherries

deep flavoured raisins

brandy to lift the spirit

nuts to chew on like difficult thoughts confronted

altogether rich, comforting and sustaining.

If anyone disagrees they are sliced white and probably past their sell by. Don't let anyone put you down! You are brilliant

This is quite clever and a lot of fun! I enjoyed reading that. It does remind me of my Mr Muggins character/writer who often ends up describing history and geography with reference to biscuits, although I have not posted too much of that yet.

Thanks David. I agree that biscuits are so diverse and full of texture that they can form a language all of their own.
