Dear diary...Tuesday 27th April 2021.

 

Awoke at 5.30am, couldn't get back to sleep,

got up went to our back bedroom where I write.

Sat at my desk awaiting the written word...but

nothing came,

 

so I pulled back the curtains as daylight approached,

awestruck, not able to move, watching sunrise from

my window, left me feeling like I'd lifted the lid off

a chest of gleaming, golden treasure,

 

I felt like Aladdin discovering a trove of wealth,

though this vibrant vision cannot be bought.

At that moment this stunning stream of nature's

riches had become my muse...It's funny how

inspiration comes about when you least expect.

An experience to treasure. I remember when a student, diliking the (I think it was Fridays) which had to be spent all day long in a smelly old chemistry lab, one year. A few times I got myself up early and went for a short walk first just down the lane from our accommodation but it was really out in the country and so benefitted from that eally morning freshness! It was certainly a blessing to behold this sight so early in the morning Jack. I just had to make a note of it. Sometimes if I can't sleep, writing or reading helps me relax rather than tossing and turning.

Hi Rhiannon,

it sounds like that walk would have been just what you needed being cooped up all day. I went for a short walk yesterday, even though it was only around the streets, I really enjoyed the air on my face, and a chance to get my heart rate up by walking fast up a steep pathway.

Hi Paul, you put a smile on my face with your comment. smiley I have to say that I'm not much good for anything else but writing or reading at such an early time of day.

For me now being retired it's nice to be able to sleep whenever I want and not have to worry about work, so in that way I feel very lucky. I think my walk yesterday did me a lot of good, because I slept right through till 8am. which was great.

I have to say that if I ever do see the sunrise these days, it tends to be at the end of my day rather than the start! I'm another one who doesn't really do early mornings, but reading your lovely poem makes me think maybe I should give it a go now and then. So beautiful how you describe the process of finding your creativity through that wonderful sight. A real pleasure to read.

Hi there airyfairy, I know what you mean about getting up too early. It's strange because I'd been wishing for some inspiration for days, so I suppose I was meant to get up and be inspired.

The last time I saw a sunrise like that, was when I was in hospital having my hip operation. It's strange how things work out when you least expect them to.

You could always set your alarm if you think a great sunrise is on the forecast, then go back to bed, I often do that. Hope you do get to see a pure golden one. wink

Perfectly written, the muse of nature has stirred my words many a time so I am with you on that point and that sunrise must have been magnificent. Very well deserved Cherries Jenny- loved this poemsmiley

What a kind comment Penny, there's always a gift of words from nature, the only problem I find is repeating myself, especially if I feel a connection with certain areas of the natural world.  

I'm so glad you get inspired by nature too, there's always that link with writing. Thank you so much for your lovely words of praise, you're very kind.

The sunrise is truly inspirational, isn't it? This was described very well ! I remember going away for a few days to the seaside and waking up early I saw a beautiful sunrise from my room over the sea. It's something that stays with you.

Wow! Hilary, what a treasured memory that must have been. The sun rising over the sea is a very rare experience. The problem with trying to take a photo of what you are seeing, is that it never does the reality justice, but you have your memory and that's what matters.
