Abraham's willingness, Christ's Great Sacrifice

[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]
How Abram loved his God – in Him his trust,
he knew He was his Shield, Provider just;
and so this strange command he would obey –
and give his only son, knew not what way
the Father’s promise now he would fulfil,
but knew he would so do through Isaac still.
The sacrifice of children is abhorred
in God’s most precious Bible, holy Word.
This was a time unique and pointed on
to what by God the Father would be done:
that day He brought as substitute a ram,
but Christ would be the sacrificial Lamb.
In love astounding, God gave his own Son
into this world to die – salvation won
so no-one else need perish who’ll believe
but have eternal life, this grace receive.
See, Abram loved his God, and God loved him:
God’s love to all the world Christ came to bring.
Tune: 10 10 10 10 10 1 0 eg Finlandia (tune of ‘Be still my soul, the Lord is on Thy side’)
Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from the dead. (from Hebrews 11:17-19; ref to Genesis chapter 22:1-19 esp v5 ‘We will worship and then we will come back to you.’)
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16

love and obedience
Beautiful poetry! Yes Abraham was obedient to the very last and it was blind faith.
The promise of offspring and children in great multitudes lied all in one person Isaac he was Abraham's son the only to bring children and whithout him there would be no-one. Yet Abraham was willing to sacrifice him, the peoples and promised land too.
“This was a time unique and pointed on to what by God the Father would be done: that day He brought as substitute a ram, but Christ would be the sacrificial Lamb”. “In love astounding, God gave his own Son into this world to die – salvation won See, Abram loved his God, and God loved him: God’s love to all the world Christ came to bring”.
Have you looked up the ancestors of Jesus in the gospel? It is interesting actually I wondered who the father of Abraham was. Ishmael was the son of Hagar she was a slave and servant of Sarah and they fled and escaped.
And I've never thought of it in this way, “Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from the dead”. Still, I wonder, if someone does that today he is state (presidents) patient as criminally insane for sure.
Your interpretation of the Bible story, and your language is lovely.

willingness and sacrifice
Sorry Rhiannon I didn't mean to say Abraham was probably insane. Thanks for the info but I think it's a rhetorical answer, I mean, who was Terah?
The story of Abraham also makes me think of the young man who wanted to follow Jesus but was kept back by his fortune and family and chose to stay and was kept from heaven as such and in the end lost his soul! Whereas Abraham chose willingness and sacrifice and to be obedient to the end.
Your lesson and story here is very interesting yes. Thanks,
Cheer up!

Thanks Rhiannon, very interesting. That was just how I had remembered the story but I hope the message was clear.
I fear it is getting really bad here with the Covid.
