A Spadeful of Blues

Just a dumb gumshoe looking for clues,
this private dick, Ed McGuffin
is cold on the trail of his own lost lover.
It's all a cigarette-smoke-screen, blues-
in-the-night-light, good-for-nuthin',
same-old story from the sob-sister's brother.
No real estate deals in this story,
Ed's holes have pockets attached
and the bank writes his letters in red.
The mean streets as route to glory,
an RKO script that everyone scratched,
because the hero ended up dead.

I thought the accent sounded real good and went so well with the poem.
