Paid! Record Cleared!

[Continuing the hymn-for-Sundays series]
The fine was paid, the prisoner released,
foreboding of incarceration ceased.
Now free to leave, no accusation on
his head remains: peace, liberty had come.
And yet still stated in his record file –
that act will be remembered yet awhile.
But when we come to God with all our guilt,
we ask, that by the blood of Jesus spilt
the punishment deserved by us be known
by Him as fully paid by his dear Son,
but more – that perfect life of Christ alone
will be imputed, covering all we’ve done.
My record clear – God chooses he will see
now only goodness pure of Christ in me
because I have repented and in shame
have asked for pardon, mercy in His name
and so am clothed in robe of righteousness
– the holy God can prodigals embrace.
‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.” Luke 18:13, 14

Blessed assurance Jesus is mine, oh what a foretaste of glory divine. Heir of salvation purchase of God, born of his spirit washed in his blood.

This is a difficult subject to write about, but you handled it very well. I enjoyed reading it.
