Force Of Life

A poem about the Buck Moon
which began on Friday 23rd July 2021.
Does shifting moon
know destiny as
conscious reflex,
like buck's brief stillness
before the charge?
Antlered motion in supreme dominance,
largest crowned branches assail;
flood of leadership
caught in frenzied conflict,
heads rising up thwack in snarl,
then pendulous they break apart
revealing bestowed steadfast control;
though power comes with a price,
to stay at the top takes resilience;
fortitude of influence in face of peril.
Lunar gives us strength in this cycle,
like great buck she leads
earth's inhabitants
to find their own courage,
rising slowly with dappled stars,
the brightest planet signaling
its jewel like quality...
leaving me breathless,
converting each new month with a smile;
guiding through ups and downs,
fading on tides that ebb and flow;
rotating in rhythm called the motion of life.

Well constructed poem Jenny.
Well constructed poem Jenny. The moon’s influence poetically described in the phase of the July Buck Moon named by the Algonquin Tribe for the new antlers that Buck's grow during this season. I enjoyed how you begin with the Buck changing in the moon's power then move the poetic imagery from the Buck’s acceptance and understanding of the challenges he will face projecting the challenges and acceptance onto man’s wonder at the influences of the moon. The ebbing and flowing tides; the illuminating moonlight that gives us sight to paths that would be unseen…I was captured by the timeless wonder of man you reveal in the last stanza while viewing the lunar phases. It is beautiful poetry Jenny, thank you for posting it.

Agree with Penny. Had not
Agree with Penny. Had not heard of Buck Moon, however what Penny says explains the deer barking in the woods I heard yesterday. I love so many lines of this poem, particularly "thwack in snarl" that whole stanza is brilliant, can see and hear so clearly. And the first part, where you link moon growing with the irrisistable charge of a stag, too, it's wonderful. Altogether creating an awareness of magic I had not understood before. Thankyou

Good one
As I had to freshen up on moon cycles and stuff a few months ago, I am appreciating the creative way you presented this. Great work.

Neat poem
I like the exploration of the moon as a regenerative force. I find the moon and the night so, like Louis Armstrong phrases it; It is 'the dark sacred night.'
