Grey cloud-palm presses down
crushed air
trees still as puppets hanging from their strings
waiting
a hiss across fields......
becomes patter on leaves,,,....
ruffle through grass.....
now! now! now! tapping against skin
as droplets flatten with a splash! roll out, meet others,
become a sheen of cool clarity
clothing like a canvas saturated in shadow colours
heavy as a shell, yet giving no protection, welcoming
the ravishment of RAIN
space is a veil between trunks, green
grass, leaves, moss, lichen b-r-e-a-t-h-i-n-g
pulsing with a trillion beats
streams grow underfoot
puddles in parched hollows, relief as memory to a lost mind
everywhere, a patina of ecstacy

Very descriptive of the end
Very descriptive of the end of gasping dryness, and the provision of moisture refreshing, satisfying! Rhiannon

I not only love the layout of this poem Di, but it's so satisfying to feel the coolness of your words...like:-
streams grow underfoot
puddles in parched hollows, relief as memory to a lost mind
everywhere a patina of ecstacy

Vividly desctribed. This
Vividly desctribed. This captures the progress of rain perfectly, and reminds me of the other morning when I took the dogs for a walk, and we had gone no more than 50 metres when we heard the sheeted feet of a rain storm accelerating up the road. The dogs looked at me and we all rushed under a tree just as the rain reached us. Suffice it to say, after 2 minutes the tree's foliage was sodden and provided no shelter, so we legged it home. Wonderful read.

Di, you are a consummate poet
Di, you are a consummate poet, and this is a great piece with so much to savour and ponder upon. When a poem asks to be re-read then that is a sign of creativity pulling and challenging, asking questions which can only be answered by further reading.

It's so clever have you've
It's so clever how you've communicated the pre-deluge drama. I love it when the dark clouds gather, everything goes quiet and the land is so thirsty. There is an otherwordly feel to this atmosphere and then, as you have desribed here, a patina of ecstasy.
