The Smell

The Smell

of animal-like fear from

a thunderous clap

and I shaking and shouting

in ecstasy

pointing to the sky-

its icicle spear

of energy

drawing my attention

from ocean’s shore.

Waves are roiling

leap-frogging

towards a cowering landscape-

wind continues

dancing topsy-turvy

in the afternoon

leaves flee the trees

and birds follow in erratic flight. 

Facing a cascade of onrushing

waves I feel it’s time to-
