Trees Called To Me

Hi insert,

It was a lovely walk, all the wild flowers seemed to add so much colour to the landscape. To think there's a whole world that crawls below the long grass, I find it fascinating that they don't even know we humans exist.

Hi Mark,

great to know you've walked the Ridgeway. You probably know the Copse of trees I'm on about, The view is amazing up there, you can see for miles. The farmers look after the land so well too. During lockdown it was the one place we were free to walk, which I shall treasure.

Hi Trevor,

I'm lucky enough to live only a twenty five minute drive from the Ridgeway, depending on the traffic. It's the one place I feel at home, well apart from the forest of course.

I do hope you get to go there, but I suspect you've been on many amazing walks.

Hello Di,

you know I was sat at my desk trying to get inspired and looking out the window, when I saw the trees and crow. As I opened the window the air just streamed in, I knew then I needed to get out into the countryside. I'm so glad I did, it was a breath of fresh air to be out in the open. 

Those copse of trees were magical as I stood beside them, the rustling of leaves just gave me a sense of well being, there's nothing like it for blowing the cobwebs away.

many of us like to converse with nature, I know you like me are one who adores all of nature. Trees are special arn't they? They give so much to the enviroment. I'm glad you understand my thoughts in this poem about the trees expecting me, it certainly felt that way.

Hi Rhiannon,

I know from past writings that you've been up on the Ridgeway and you know exactly what I mean about the space and fresh air. I feel truely lucky to live as close as I do, although if we didn't have the car, it would be a lot harder to get there, so again I feel fortunate.

Glad you liked the reference to the small world living under the long grass, nature is wonderful. I've never seen the borrowers, but I think I've heard of them.

I think that during lockdown, the farmers left some of their fields to grow wild, many of the grasses and wild flowers have come back this year and are thriving at the edges, thankfully.

Hi there Turlough, how significant that you've walked the Ridgeway, it makes this poem even more special when someone identifies with it. I used to walk up on Barbury Hill, the view is so spectacular up there, but can't walk up that high anymore, apart from once we climbed it a while ago. I'm sure you've been up there and seen the old iron age fort of the castle.

You mentioned you lived in Chippenham, I used to go to a lot of parties there back in the early 90s, had a friend she was a drummner in a band called: Severance. Sadly we went our different ways and lost contact, I used to get up and sing with Severance, but must have sounded awful on the ear, but they asked me to join them...I declined, because I can't sing a note in actual fact.

Your right about opening the window, it does change the atomosphere when there's a breeze, so bracing and wakes you up.

Hi Paul,

you know I suppose it depends on how you view places like the Ridgeway, some people just walk for exercise and fresh air, but I also see the magic of nature all around. I wonder about the many people that once lived and thrived up on Barbury Hill, how hard life must have been, and the simple life they led.

In certain places like the Copse, I can feel ambience of spirit, how the trees stand tall and proud, like they are protectors of the land, their roots connected sending information...it's all so amazing to me.

Isn't nature wonderful? It takes my breath away.
