Dreams of Halloween
In celluloid dreams I walk
in graveyards of the mind,
reveries of vampire movies,
Christopher Lee’s fangs
dripping in crimson blood,
maidens kissed by death’s
cold lips pressed on necks,
bats disappearing into ether.
Reels flicker with frames as
masked men in boiler suits
emerge from shadows slashing.
White noise and static infiltrate
a television box, psychic portal
to another dream-like dimension
where restless poltergeists roam,
storm-tossed trees break windows.
Cellars house horrors, hiding
a man burned and scarred
wearing a red and green jumper
and razor tipped gloves.
Cenobites in leather and pain,
souls torn apart, corpulence
shredded after summoning
demons with a puzzle box.
Wandering teen backpackers on
wild, windswept Yorkshire moors
stalked by wolves cursed
to forever seek human flesh.
And as the pendulum
swings across a screaming pit
one final, fatal cut,
in another Hammer horror.
Shafts of dawn’s daylight
bring to an end scenes
from a Halloween nightmare.
The end credits roll
as I leave the hallowed
halls of an all-night theatre,
my sanity sated for now,
until the moon calls again.

Perfect seasonal poem.

It feels like Halloween is really taking over this year! It will be bigger than Christmas soon! I can see your love of films in this one! Very appropriate!

It can be very exciting or powerful, but I do have to be careful with horror. I can find it too depressing or negative, so I try to watch more positive things often so I don't get too depressed! I ration it for myself so it can't have damaging effects on my sanity/sense of calm/ sense of optimism!

Really cool. I loved the ending. Perfectly worded and a great way to sum up all you had written before it.
My apologies for not having been on here for a time and getting behind in reading your stuff. I'll just be super busy until January or so. Great poem.
