Our snow in Bulgaria is usually Russian snow. It blows in across Ukraine, Romania and the Danube to make us shiver. But us getting something from them makes a change, considering that they stole our alphabet and our cuisine. Thank you Russia.

But how many days to go? It's always hard to tell here. Bulgarian Orthodox traditionalists celebrate Christmas on 6 January but in 1968 our church hierarchy made a change so that we became the only Orthodox country to celebrate on 25th December. But that tends not to happen anyway as on 24th December businesses close by mid afternoon and a big meal is eaten in the evening and then it's more or less back to normal on the 25th.

Once again I enjoyed your words. They always make me think.

You are sounding like a native born Bulgarian :0) Just having the one big meal and back to normal must be just right for you? I remember you saying you don't like all the commercial faff. It must be aweful for people woring in shops if it drags on and on with no days off
