This Wisdom Tree

 

remains sturdy

erect as a sentry

full of emotion-

 

saw the earth soak up

Civil War blood

heard  broken hearts

carve into its strength

& felt anguish

then forgiveness

from penitent souls-

 

I lean back and

place my being against

the trunk – it

sweats knowledge.
