A Better Part of Life
By Richard L. Provencher

I can see love in the outline
of a farm
where people once lived-
a small pond barely seen
through a copse and
knolls crowding an old barn.
I see open space where
horses once viewed their world
and a gravel road inviting me
into this sanctuary
with sky’s blue above.
Autumn colours capture
emotions as the hurly
burly of calico leaves create
this grand celebration.
Close my eyes once again
brings to life children & a dog-
trout caught – pigs squealing
momma & poppa long gone
but always close by,

Hi Richard,
this poem comes across like a lovely reminder of recollections from days long ago, like a warm memory shining brightly.

I liked this one very much,
I liked this one very much, too, as if in some places the lives of the past are so intense, joy, achievement, struggle, companionship, they can be sensed now in a quiet moment - all the busy ness you evoke, and sounds - children, dogs, pigs. The stillness of horses. And the colours.
The feeling that this place was the center of a family's life, and it is still beautiful, keeps remembrance of them in the lines of buildings etc as once they would have always remembered the land, shape of hills
Also I love the sounds shapes in :
"hurly
burly of calico leaves create"
