This Homeless Man

This Homeless Man
came to me asking for
a cup of coffee
& a donut feeling
blue - an afternoon
encounter now bringing
him close to me
and I cheerfully did
& watching tears carve
down his cheeks.
I wasn’t always like
this he said – my infantry
days in Afghanistan did
this to me.
Now PTSD crawls all
over me.
My hug and tears placed
a blanket over his fears.

In the end much the same story as Vietnam. The streets or prison and often state mental hospitals.
Keep well! Nolan &
