A new chill in the air this morning;
remember a winter hunched on mama's bed;
it took both hands to turn musty pages
of her cloth bound childhood atlas,
I couldn’t read the German Gothic Script
wonder still at shapes, how colours
and internal borders changed from year to year.
“No, that one is very out of date”
my teacher said
“you need to replace your view of the world
on a regular basis”
That was funny,
we didn’t have money
to replace our shoes.
I knew where lines were drawn.

This is so clever, yet
This is so clever, yet personal, too. From the safest place there is, a parent's bed, to the scariness of the world order changing, from hugeness of countries to small as a child's feet
