'No man is an island
is a John Donne's allegory.
If he had enthused
'No man is a promontory'
he may have been confused.

It is like consulting
an English dictionary
searching for 'Bactrian camel'
thinking that 'dromedary'
is the same mammal.

I too get muddled
about a metaphor
believing it's the same
as a semaphore
but with a different name.

But then I am known
to be rather dull.
I have become famous
for being a numskull
and an utter ignoramus.

I was amused at the idea of trying to use 'promontory' in verse! And the picture of someone being a promentory seemed like someone sticking their neck out!

Surely a dromedary is a single-humped camel, and a bactrian is a two-humped one. Mind you, I had to check it out. There are plenty of long words I confuse, and my husband seems to enjoy remembering and using them, and my spelling especiall of 'ee's and 'ea's is very weak. (Welsh is phonetic)

Hi Rhiannon, thanks for clarifying the distinction between the two types of camels which wasn't obvious the way I phrased the relevant lines. I have since adjusted them

Hi Jenny, 
as you say, it's amazing how many words there are that we have never come across before, and even when we do they are soon forgotten. I learn new ones every day, especially now that I play two word games, Worldle and Quordle. If you have any spare time try them. Many seem addicted to them.
