Sheep, flowers and sunlight

26/3/22
Park the car,
hungry excited sheep
and lambs run down to the gate
from all sides
(expecting their farmer?)
In through a different gate
and ignored,
wend up to the
conical steep wooded hill
steps in the mud where needed
dry bare trees, dead leaf litter
splashes of primroses
patches of wood anemones
a few violets;
along the ridge a little way then
down a grassy ride
a lttle more green here as
some evergreens and
ivy enveloping some trunks;
what is that odd stick-stalk
at the side of the way?
Soon a troupe of them –-
strange
(later found out they are
horse-tail ferns emerging).
See the anemones beginning
to close and droop for the night –
Granny’s nightcaps.
Back out on to the fields
lovely late afternoon light on the far hillsides –
sheep rush to greet us again!

I enjoyed your observations
I enjoyed your observations :0) The sheep in the field on my walk do not have lambs yet, but the violets and primroses and anemones are out. You must have many maps of your area, and fun planning excursions?

HI Rhiannon
HI Rhiannon
You paint such a lovely detailed picture. Spring is certainly doing well at the moment and inspiring the world, I hope.

a wonderful sense of calm in
a wonderful sense of calm in this piece Rhiannon, like the end to a perfect day has been achieved and you've just sat down to write about it.
I love the photos too, they fill the heart with gladness...as does your poem.
Jenny.

I also love these little
I also love these little 'walk' pieces. I think spring will be taking a short break from today, but it has been absolutely glorious hasn't it? Hopefully back soon!

I can imagine how all those
I can imagine how all those soft colours blend together beneath the spring sunshine. It's lovely to see the sheep and lambs in Wales but I can't help wondering if they will become a rarer sight with changing consumer habits and increasing awareness of animal welfare. The horsetail ferns are fascinating but definitely not something you want in your garden. I enjoyed the way you described them as a troupe, and the granny's nightcaps, such a pretty woodland flower.

I found your poem
I found your poem very entertaining, it's like those old-fashioned postcards!
Have a good day Rhiannon, lovely weather here. Keep well! Tom
