When we feel we are weak and worthless

And no one wants our words

That's when our words matter most.

 

When we think others have said it all better

Because they are our elders and betters

That's when we need to share our words.

 

And then like daisy chains

We shall join together

Little daisies of the day.

 

And the giants shall not crush us

Because they are too unseeing and too dense.

 

And the sages shall fall asleep

Inhaling the essence of their fluids

Perfumed with  dusk.

 

And us, the little daisies in a chain of our own choosing

Shall have our bright and harm-free day

Right here, right now

Together

In the Sun

Your 'giants' and 'sages' sound like those with quickness of lip and mind, and maybe using such to stampede discussion. Though these days if one reads online newspaper comments I feel there can be many 'little people/daisies' who abuse their new-found freedom to put in their words, and 'shoot from the hip', blast out opinions without careful thought/reading/listening to others, and that is sad. So we should try to speak, but to do so usefully, truthfully however unskilled we feel! Rhiannon

I'm glad you read my meaning, David. My first draft had a line about and 'the publishers don't want us because 'you have to know the right people'

As far as I'm concerned 'us lot' are the right people. It's not about being polished or writing in the 'in style' for 2022 although we have some accomplished writers here. Real, fresh and heartfelt was good enough for Wordsworth and it works for me. All the way! Keep on keeping on.smiley

I love the idea of thoughtful, gentle people being like daisies. Made me think of flowers in unmown grass, shining like acts of kindness, small but adding together into something wonderful

Yes CM and when we are feeling a little bigger and bolder we can also think in terms of dogs as well as daisies

'It's not the size of the dog in the fight

It's the size of the fight in the dog!'

Hi Rachel, I'm so sorry I nearly missed this poem that speaks from the heart. I would love to be a part of that daisy chain you speak of. There's a humbling feeling as I read, that's spiritual and happy just to be.
