A tumble of clustered bells silently sway

in the tempo of this soft May breeze,

each a seasons bonny stiffwhite bonnet

for a bee, ever puritanical in their innate industry;

live, and make more.

A subtle poison carried in a woodland tale.

I had not thought about this lovely flower for a long time, and I think i thought of it as only growing in gardens..It seems that many plants have poisons that sometimes can have medicinal properties when researched and altered in certain ways, but I'm not sure whether that has been done for the lily-of-the-valley in a reliable and safely scientific way.. Rhiannon

This gorgeous poem is our Pick of the Day. So lovely, lenchenelf. Love the idea of puritanical bees. And all especially appropriate since it is World Bee Day. That is really lovely lenchen. I'd never heard it called Eve's Tears either. I love the name Eve, and Lilly of the Valley is a favourite flower and scent of mine so I will be calling it that name from now on. I have a tiny cluster of it from an old gardening client. Thank you for sharing.

So much you've taught me about the lilly of the valley in this poem.  Like Jane I'd never heard it called Eve's Tears. Such a pretty flower that I have'nt seen around for quite a while, so it was great to be reminded in your significant poem.

Flowers are so often symbolic throughout history and varied cultures, often contextual and carry multiple meanings sometimes lost in translation down twistytime to fetch up in other stories :)

Bees, so essental for our being, don't trouble themselves with existential angst as far as we know, they just "do" , while we are their undoing  frown
