I remember a child (about 8 years old) in Sunday School saying something like
‘It’s a good idea to say you believe in God
– if it’s wrong you won’t lose out,
but if you don’t and it is right, you’ll be sorry.’

– rather young to know Pascal’s wager –

but
‘faith’ (and faithful following)
flows from facts,
certain, reasoned:
the mathematics of the stars,
a daffodil, a lily,
each cell’s organisation,
the complex changes in the circulation
of a new born baby, and more, and more –
trumpet ‘Design’.

No chance this from chance.
A Designer “out there”
and “here”
who could become like us
to walk and teach in Galilee
showing compassionate power
revealing simply
the universe has a Maker
who cares about those he’s made,
approachable,
though not removing all evil
yet.

No-one ‘out of sight’
all known through and through,,
willing to help anyone to find him
know him
– knowledge which gives …

Who dares to honestly examine
and ask ('if You are there') for understanding?

Thank you, Mark. That is good!  But I am so aware that for many they have been surrounded by those who scorn and assume that the truth isn't so, and no encouragement to really see what is evidence for the truth and why it is so good to find, and find Him, and I want to help many think more and break away from what is untrue and impoverishing, damaging. Rhiannon

I'd not heard of Pascal's wager, so did not understand Ewan's poem, but have looked it up now. That is canny for an 8 year old!

I hope there is always the opportunity for people to be in Nature and able to appreciate the Design 

You have made your point beautiflly :0)

Thank you, Di. I think I was a bit flummoxed by what the child said, but it has made me think that one couldn't rest in that sort of shallow 'belief' and what are the grounds for true belief and commitment..

Even looking at one little weed can give pleasure and wonder, and as a teenager, reading about organised cell activity and structure was eye-opening.

I didn't understand all of Ewan's poem, but these points seemed worth considering and engaging with. Rhiannon
