Otters' Child

Wide toothed, predatory smiles
extend to the end of each allotted bench
in this greygrim pool: their own shallow end,
not beyond to we, who paddle past,
presenting our genes and beloveds’
unique life stories, from one to another.
Their smiles stretch thin.
Our care shines a faery light
on young dreams and hope
for validation
in an offer, to make them one of
You.
Please don’t eat them.

Brilliant, powerful, moving.
Brilliant, powerful, moving. What more could you ask for from a poem? It's our Pick of the Day. Do share on Facebook and Twitter. (Image is from here: https://commons.m.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Heubach_European_Otter.jpg)
