Wide toothed, predatory smiles

extend to the end of each allotted bench

in this greygrim pool: their own shallow end,

 

not beyond to we, who paddle past,

presenting our genes and beloveds’

 

unique life stories, from one to another.

 

Their smiles stretch thin.

 

Our care shines a faery light

on young dreams and hope

for validation

 

in an offer, to make them one of

You.

 

Please don’t eat them.

I am very taken aback as I thought to scrap this piece; it was an overhelming image after listening to other parents as they and I moved around the event.

Lena please could you explain a little what the exhibition was? I am very glad you didn't delete as it is raw as a wound

are supported  usually until age 19 or until 25 with an EHCP.

The event was meant to showcase to young folk and their parent/carers what was available as a local offer from employers, Council and local colleges /higher ed.

Sadly, I didn't see one happy face.

may I say thank you for your kindness. I initially thought to re-wite this, after clumsily blurting a widely held and personal fear into the world, primal as an Otter holding her child to show you innocence and lack of threat, need of care, though others' may have a different interpretation.
