Forget-Me-Not

Zeus waited till last hour
to name this flower; roots
creeping through darkness
of soil...calling out to be
noticed, will you one day
become extinct upon this
earth?
For when I was born dad's
surname I took; but will be
no more once I'm gone – lost
in translation of time, hopefully
not just a memory left behind.
Life's always changing like
aunts and uncles I've known;
now they are no more.
Glimpsing into the future,
one day I too will wither
and perish like this flower;
In rhythm with blue laced
petals...those yellow dense
eyes so minute will watch
summer's last rays slip
from view, creeping
clusters twitching in breeze.
I comb through old faded
photos; holding on to my
late father's bloodline,
lingering a while over the
passage of time;
hoping in my heart that
when I take my last breath,
a fog will lift to connect with
this flower...and I won't be
forgotten.

So moving
A good poem that keeps a firm rein on its sentiment, more emotive for that contol, read several times.
Best

ah, we'll all be forgotten
ah, we'll all be forgotten but there's beauty in remembering and you add colour.

A reflective, pensive poem
A reflective, pensive poem Jenny. I am sure that you have many years yet to enjoy! Paul

I like the reference to Zeus
I like the reference to Zeus being reminded by this small flower that it needed a name. I can hear its little voice piping up: “forget me not!”.
The link to the passage of time and mortality is very pertinent and makes us reflect on how relevant remembrance is. Your poem reflects all these sentiments well, Jenny.

I think to leave memories in
I think to leave memories in the family of friends that are pleasant and even thankful is more important, One's name remembered with pleasure, at least for awhile. And to be in God's family, and that forever will be so much more wonderful too.
My sons have daughters, and my daughter has sons, so our surname will probably be at an end. But things have got so confused recently that I think following back one's famly tree from this generation or the next will likely be very difficult as marriage and acknowledged fatherhood has got so much less.
