Early

We are the tribe of Early
We are the Cleaners
Window Cleaners
Recyclers
Gardeners
Workers for the Royal Mail.
Bus and Train Drivers
Cabbies travelling with our fares
To the airport.
We may grunt at the 5 am alarm
When mornings are dark
But we pee, wash, brush our teeth
Drink our tea and eat our brekkie
We do it.
We adore the gold moments
When light shifts and brightens.
Red sunrise, grey morning, pouring rain, slippery ice
We know them all
We come prepared.
We are the guardians.
Do not lock us in
When we are old or sick
We need our early
Oxygen.

we are the poor, the working
we are the poor, the working poor, who scour and clean and ensure that you get by. I don't know why. Money to be sure, but riches are not our lure.
