There are small moments of joy:
there must be, or we are lost.
Not schadenfreude, please,
no - too akin to vicious glee
in others’ misfortune:
there but for the grace and favour
of the powerful rich
go you and I
to food banks
cap-in-hand,
hands-in-gloves.
Besides…
These still small moments are ours.
Treasure them for they are our
only riches, and they trickle not:
no – not downward from gleeful vain
owners of great fortunes,
living in grace-and-favour flats
paid for by the owners
of mite-hoarding banks:
“Banker Schoen!”
shows no respect
in respect of us.
