Only The Lonely

Tomorrows good intentions
aren't certain for the living,
loved ones grasp for answers
especially when left behind;
misplaced,
swimming in oceans of sadness;
surfing waves of emotion, not
easy when unexplored dark
clouds in whirlwind of life's
struggle take hold.
Deprived of warmth and loving
tenderness, growing old alone,
feeling cold – their concealed
heavy hearts to proud to be
shared, leaving solitary distress.
They need to know...these seekers
of answers are blessed beyond belief;
for they are watched by guardians
of moon and stars,
guided on their journey through
a symphony; musical lyrics
of positive instinctive strength,
that helps them once more to
feel alive.

I wrote this poem thinking about
the many old people during
covid lock down who were lost
and alone after losing husbands
and wives, then thinking about
how I would feel if it were me.
I think the answer can be found
in music that responds to how
you are feeling and brings solace,
also trusting in your own spiritual
strengths and guardians to guide.

"... watched by guardians of moon and stars.." Thoughtful and moving. The answers are somewhere in the afterthoughts, I am sure. [Should that be "... losing their husbands"?] Paul :)

Bereavement at the lockdown
Bereavement at the lockdown time must have been very difficult especially if younger family weren't able to have much contact, but hopefully many would be inovative in ways to keep in some sort of contact - through windows, and phone, skype for some, and the presence of TV miust have been some help these days compared to if it had happened years ago.
Of course for those more alone in the world, many neighbours (now unable to go to work) did get more involved with those around them.
I think they would want more realistic guardians and comforters than the sun and the moon, though.[or, maybe you were referring to the guardians of the moon and stars?] But the older generation do have strong memories of learning of prayer to the Saviour who came to Bethlehem and Calvary to help them, and these memories often remain clear when the recent happenings are getting hazy. Certainly music is helpful in loneliness and stress, but also those hymns they learnt that show the way to solid comfort.
A lot of food for thought about others' needs and our own preparation for such events! Rhiannon

A plalylist of life might be helpful. Songs certainly evoke memories. Poetry does that too. As you know. As you show.

Hi Jenny,
Hi Jenny,
It was especially difficult for the elderly in the lockdown and a tragedy for them if they lost a partner. This poem is thoughtful and empathetic in their struggle to survive. Music certainly helps: it is a great comforter !
