Hereafter
By Ewan

Some call it "The Hereafter",
as if it were somewhere close,
and not yonder, beyond our ken,
certainly beyond belief,
at least mine.
But there is comfort there,
for those still here -
and those on the threshold,
listening for the piper
at the gates of dawn.
For she, too, heard drums,
different beats,
in syncopated time,
jumping from now to then
stumbling over the previous minutes.
And these drums,
these cruel tympani,
played in her deaf ears
as they had in my father’s,
until he too heard pipes.
So we console ourselves,
with their strong beliefs,
held a lifetime
and know that they knew
they’d be together again,
on the other side of the sky,
at the back of the north wind.

I'm glad you were able to put
I'm glad you were able to put some words to your loss, I'm sure it helps even if it doesn't feel as if it does at the time. And I love the poem, loved the last two lines. Take care.

So sorry, always sad and
So sorry, always sad and lonely and jarring, especially so soon after your last piece of the loss of meaningful communication. I saw my mother-in-law (103) yesterday and after giving her a couple of books of cloudscapes and aeroplanes, she suddenly asked if it was Christmas, but was I coming in again, for she hadn't got my present, and then added maybe I'd like to go and choose with her, and as I didn't give a comprehensible reply, added, or maybe I'd prefer a surprise. But she is peaceful now, and does seem to be waiting for better.
I do hope your 'beyond belief, at least mine' isn't closed to the fact that you might one day find the facts believeable. Many have started from your position and even set out to investigate to show the impossiblitiy of the accounts of the 'hereafter' entering 'here' in a stable, and the later death and resurrection, but have been astonished to discover the accounts inescapably credible. So do investigate, please! … Rhiannon
