You Know Who You Are But You Don't

Words for the sweet people
Loved and unaware
From us poor souls who stand
Slightly off balance (with a tiny stone in our shoe)
In silent adoration
We think of you every day
As you drink coffee, walk dogs
We could never let you know
Ever, ever, ever
But you are loved so much
My sweet
We shout it often
When alone and the sky dark as
Two midnights in a jar
Whispers taunt ‘tell them I dare ya sweet boy’
Our chests swell and lungs fill
But the courage runs off into the night
And we exhale flat defeat
However, if like in the sci-fi comics
The Mekons invaded earth
Pointed a death ray and squeezed the trigger
In that very moment
We might give you a gentle nudge
And say all matter of fact
Oi bright eyes
Guess What.

Yes that phrase, "Two midnights in a jar," will never leave my mind and will forever be the perfect definition of darkness. Brilliant! Your poem flows effortlessly and packs a punch at the end. I loved it.
