The Tall Bookcase

The removal men
shook their heads.
'It is much too tall',
they instantly said.
The bookcase's height
was eight-foot-four
while six-foot-six high
was the room's door.
'It will not go through'.
they said and sighed.
'But it went in alright',
I promptly replied.
'There was no problem
the day we bought it;
went smoothly through
and was a perfect fit.'
My neighbour observed
the bookcase was slim,
(the width just 18 inches)
so it was thanks to him
that the removal men
realised they hadn't tried
to move that furniture
by turning it on its side.

Ha! Ha! There's a moral to this poem. If at first you don't suceed try, try again.
It reminds me of trying to get a settee through our front door, what a palaver that was, but like your poem we got there in the end.
Nice one for the I P Luigi.

We wanted tp get a bulky
We wanted to get a bulky cabinet typesetting machine into an old cottage we lived in. There was a tiny halll with two doors and a staircase from it, and the back way was very convoluted too. My husband (a maths teacher) made exact diagrams on graph paper and worked it out that we could – and did!
And removal men my parents were using assured them that their piano wouldn't be heavy to them, but had to get extra men in to move it and 'at the other end' once called local men, and once called in some rag-and-bone men in off the road to help!
But amazing how a simple turn in your story can still remain unthought of – we often don't look around an issue! Rhiannon

Yes, I was going to say that
Yes, I was going to say that this happens in real life. Adroitly done, dear Luigi. Paul
