2 Super-sensory-sensitive scrubbing towers

One nose
two tunnels
through which the air flows
as it goes
to our lungs,
to sustain,
maintain
life;
past detector receptors
(about 400 types)
which sense
smells and scents
(distinguish between a trillion
olfactory stimuli);
and fine hairs to filter,
trap particles,
sticky mucus oozed to capture,
attack microbes and bacteria,
the debris wafted towards
the stomach’s acid by cell cilia.
On its return
depleted
bearing the excreted
waste gas for the plants
the nostrils then vent
the air whose life-giving oxygen spent,
removed to sustain
life maintain.
You value your mouth, ears, eyes,
but do you despise
your humble nose?
clogged by catarrh or disliking its size?
It does you much good,
and enriches enjoyment of food!

Hi Rhiannon,
Hi Rhiannon,
This is a real phraseology of how the nose works. I remember when I used to practice yoga and meditation, how important breathing properly is. But you have gone so much deeper with your poem.
It amazes me just how many things go on with the nose, that we don't even consider.
A great I P poem.
Jenny.

Hi Rhiannon
Hi Rhiannon
An extremely well put together poem. One giving lots of enjoyment and information.
When I wrote my story about the trunk I was intrigued as to why an elephant's nose is called a trunk so I googled it. Fascinating as is the nature of the trunk. Did you know that the Indian and African elephant's trunks are different? Worth a google.
Maybe you could continue poems about noses and write one about the elephant's!

Such a lot of fine detail and
Such a lot of fine detail and what sits like a fun poem. You have done a grand job of weaving such technical aspects into this. Very nicely done indeed, Rhiannon. Paul

studying biology
Somehow never liked anatonomy and physiology at school I had a biology major. What I liked is the plants and especially the study of cells, sitology was fascinating you know it's like scifi.
Your descriptions are very amusing if I may say, from an expert yes with all the chemical biology knowledge. There was a researcher at university he told me there are a lot of unanswered questions. For example he said they don't know at all how blood platelets work- sounds like a very simple question. A mystery.
Keep well! Goodnight! Nolan &

Very interesting Rhiannon,
Very interesting Rhiannon, thankyou! Had no idea about this bit:
"past detector receptors
(about 400 types)
which sense
smells and scents
(distinguish between a trillion
olfactory stimuli);
Having not been able to smell really, since sometime in childhood, after getting covid some has returned, and it is so strange to suddenly get these new sensations! Are humans really able to distinguish a trillion smells?
