Odd Sock Lament
Where do all the odd socks go?
Paired for life
They leave in strife
Leaving neatly folded rows
Maybe by the washer eaten
Or buried ‘neath unwashed linen
Even a small child’s secret stash
Another five-toed duality split
Sole survivors
Run from smelly feet
To seek a sweet-smelling retreat
Chilly odd feet long softly sing
The odd sock syndrome’s last lament
From Hades to Heaven
The solo sock ever wandering
They march in single file
Searching for that sole mate
A journey never ending.

Of course, there is a trend
Of course, there is a trend for wearing odd socks now, and they are sold as bundles of odd socks I think. But I'm not sure if any odd combinations are trendy, or whether they need to sort-of 'match'! My daughter-in-law has done it for a long time, I do it when I can't find matching ones! Rhiannon

I often think, when nations
I often think, when nations are trying to find a common bond, conversations about the mystery of the lost socks would do wonderfully, as this does seem to be an international phenomenon. Nice take on the IP!

A very nice interpretation of
A very nice interpretation of the I.P.,, Graham. It is a curse that affects us all. I remember echoing this lament way back in 2012. https://www.abctales.com/story/luigipagano/case-disappearing-sock

I really identify
I really identify. "Searching for that sole mate a journey never ending" the only solution is buy your socks all identical. I've tried it it works. It works, if you can because the shops know. So suppose you then lose two socks in this case no problem you only lose the two, whereas if they were different pairs you might as well in effect lose four. You see? If you care, who knows? But now the more socks lost the bigger your saving.
So you must buy socks all the same all the time, not always easy the shops want you to buy them all the time so they're all sold different pairs. But all this doesn't solve the age old mystery, Where do all the good socks go?
Cheers! Tom
