Habitat : Grassy areas almost anywhere...

...easily disturbed"

 

 with silk-cool shock, they rise

pale as ghosts of yellow birch leaves

making wind of memory and promise

 

perhaps afraid of falling into Earth's deep sleep

tiny wings like questions flicker always

through a tangle of tall equal signs

where nothing is straight forward

till cold's answer takes flight

 

that they came to be

is proof of miracles

We've been having afternoon temperatures between 35 and 40 degrees every day for two weeks and they're forecasting that it will remain the same for the next two weeks at least. 

But I like this weather, as long as I'm not expected to do anything.

I hope you're happy with your weather too.

:0) Glad it is ok for you! I remember the first poem you put on ABC about how even the bees were too hot - I always think of you as surrounded by sunflowers:0) Weather here is much cooler, feels like Summer is done for this year

A Di poem is a symbiotic meeting with nature. Yes, delicate and nuanced. Just lovely [Some of the sentences are shaded. Not sure if that is a formatting thing or just that I am reading on my phone] Paul

you always think of the perfect word, Rhiannon! Slight describes them exactly! Mixture of small and light. There are so many just now that Autumn is starting. That video is BRILLIANT, Thankyou!!! Had no idea they looked like that close up - I don't know what the ones in the woods feed on though as the only flowers are tormentil, and honeysuckle but have not seen them fly high enough for those. Argh, I hope this is them, and not something completely different!

I have never heard of this moth before, but managed to find a youtube video showing this remarkable little flying insect. Your poem describes perfectly its remarkable existence Di.

Hi Jenny :0) Thankyou so much for reading and commenting, you are very kind! This year have not seen any butterflies at all that I can remember, so it is great these little creatures seem to be thriving still. When the birch leaves start falling is when there are most, here. They are meant to be common, so perhaps if you go somewhere with long grass you might see them?
