Rain ground-pounding
lashing,
lightning flashing
booming sound
of thunder crashing –
winds howling
gales bashing
rifting, lifting,
water standing,
cars splashing
earth soaking
drinking,
water sinking
down to roots
to feed new shoots,
empower life;
____________
 
Lullaby rain
gentle rhythm
pattering droplets’ refrain
softly strafing the thirsty earth
soaking, hydrating
wetting the wilting
all that was waiting
to drink their fill
from the fall
sweeping past
weeping down
at last.

Loved this poetic ode to Rain, very nicely done; I can hear the rain drenching the land, quenching the thirsty earth and softly pattering on the rooftops. Enjoyed this very much.smiley

Thank you, Penny. I've always enjoyed trying to convey sounds when writing, and enjoy the sound of storm (when cosy inside) and the gentle sounds of rain outside when warm in bed! Rhiannon

Thank you, Jenny. The IP did make me want to look through older verse, as I've often enjoyed using words like this as well as alliteratively and rhyme. We all have different styles and interests! Rhiannon

Thank you. One was a bit longer on its own I think! But they seemed to go together well. We have sunshine mixed with showers at the present, and temperatures rising during the day. Rhiannon

Your great use of onomatopoeiae makes the description of dramatic weather all the more dramatic. 

And you sneaked in before me with my idea for writing, though I didn't really know where to start. It seems like here my onomatopoeiae have dried up just as our rain has.

I enjoyed reading this.

Thanks. I wanted to search back and see when onomatopoea seemed to have been useful in thinking about various things in the past. I'll probably produce some more, maybe to some extent reworked! Rhiannon

well done! I think ALL your poems brilliantly have words which sound of their meaning. I was listening to a program about Seamus Heaney, and his poems do, too, it is a great and wonderful gift you share.
In this one, as well as the beautiful sound, what I really loved was "all that was waiting". This describes perfectly how it was in the drought this Summer, so simply. "All" being animals, insects, plants, gardeners, farmers
