Planning a Children's Party

“Thank God, it comes but once a year.”
The remark, accompanied by a sigh,
may be insensitive but it is sincere.
The expectations, as always, are high.

To plan a children's party is not easy
and often done with circumspection.
It makes an individual feel queasy
to organise everything to perfection.

One has to entertain the little brats,
who nowadays are more sophisticated,
with a clown performing magic acts
by which the kids will be captivated.

All games, including ‘Pass the parcel’,
have to have a present for each child.
Then there has to be a bouncy castle
upon which even the timid goes wild.

Many long hours were spent to bake
what is to be the party’s masterpiece:
a deliciously creamy birthday cake
of which every guest will get a piece.

There will certainly be a noisy crunch
throughout the party's short duration.
It'll be vital to rein in the unruly bunch
in order to conclude the celebration.

In the house filled with lots of sound,
to be heard, the mother will shout:
“Children! Be quiet and gather round,
as ii is time to blow the candles out.”
