You won't feel moments

veiled by drifts of swirling

snow, where silence chills

this terrain with its shiver;

 

skylark's song of approval

is voicing spring's return,

where warmth and light

are enhanced;

 

your message for optimism,

after harsh frostbite, means

even trees eagerly warm to

life, happy to welcome busy

chirruping,

 

this little bird brimming

with paragon of positive

assurance; departs for

warmer climates, a place

blanketed by bluer skies.

 

For now I'll just imagine

you and your constant

forever partner; hovering

in flight...lingering with

message of hope.

Your poem covers brilliantly the things that this bird brings to our lives. I only wish I could fly away in winter as he does. I love the skylarks' 'not staying here - see you when it's warmer' approach to life.

Hi Turlough,

I can understand your feelings with your love of warmer climates, though I'm more of an Autumn come Winter person now, that's only since I've got older, I used to love the heat and would bask in the sun's rays as much as I could. 

The wonderful thing about us humans, is that we are all so different and individual, which is what makes us all special, the Skylark would definitely agree with you though.

By the way, glad you liked those words. I must admit it's so much quieter in Winter, but when the chill becomes too much, it's nice to come in from the cold and warm up.

Hope you are managing to stay as warm as possible. We haven't had any snow yet, and I hear the weather's supposed to be warming up here in Wiltshire. So as usual we'll be looking forward to a milder Christmas.

We humans are indeed all different. I wonder if there's ever an awkward skylark that has a different opinion to the rest of them.

Hi, Jenny. Although so many little birds migrate, I think the skylark stays around, though moving to maybe flocking in different places, eg seashore, and definitely sing less. So we do look forward to hearrig that joyous soaring song in the springtime. Rhiannon

Hi Rhiannon,

I'm sure you're right. I know they've been seen further South in Cornwall. One thing I find special about these birds is that they mate for life. I love also the way they seem to never stop chirruping, like they have so much to say, like they're announcing, 'never give up Hope, you will get through anything with Hope.'

Always nice to hear from you Di. I couldn't resist trying to imagine what the Skylark would be singing, but as this bird is a symbol of Hope, I thought it would have to be something agreeable.

I found your poem to be very calming, as always Jenny. The birds offer us a higher level, removed from the seemingly unsolvable problems of our terrestrial world.

Sorry Nolan, I would hate the idea of Summer all year round. That's why I love the changing seasons here in England, then everyone get to experience the weather they like.
