The road to righteousness is not rhetoric,

the path to freedom is not fighting.

The mother of all battles grieves for her children,

the father of freedom looks sadly on.

Give a little thought to those we love,

give a little time to pray them through.

Give a little hope for the great white dove,

give a little sympathy for the unlucky few.

"The mother of all battles grieves for her children", must be a good thing, I mean logically, if your read the as more literal.
