The Mole (A Sonnet) 

 

Jennifer Pickup, 26.01.2024 

 

I’ve been hiding in the dark for too long, 

Seeking refuge in ground’s eternal night –  

A haven in which to rest and grow strong, 

Finding solace in the absence of light. 

 

The time has come to return above ground, 

To go diving up through the rich, black earth, 

Emerge in the world of sunlight and sound, 

Ready and willing to embrace rebirth. 

 

I’ve learnt the art of calmness in the soil, 

Nurtured the seeds of hope and sanity –  

When I take back the reins of daily toil, 

May the underworld’s lessons stay with me. 

 

Soon the mole will see the light, finally… 

And these sweet velvet dreams will set me free.

The peace and lessons of confinement, emerging when the earth warms up and you feel ready. There is calmness in the soil. This is very centering and beautiful to read.

Beautiful Jennifer -wise and positive - also - moles are amazing when you see them aren't they? Quite shy so it's rare, but such a special moment if you get lucky. Very well deserved golden cherries, and here's to coming out into the sunshine!

As I once described to a senior ABC member herein "There is a Cluster of Rock Star World Class Poets" that exist in the ABC realm....
