In the summer heat

It’s hotter in Bulgaria,
it’s cooler at the Pole.
It’s winter in Australia,
so really, on the whole
our climate’s not extreme.
But yet in height of summer heat
tempers get frayed and angers flame.
Could rainstorm feed the earth, defeat
the stoked-up passions so destructive,
cool, sober down to dialogue
which may yet prove productive.

I like the rhythm and rhyme
I like the rhythm and rhyme in the first part of this poem Rhiannon. You pick up on not only the heat of the summer, but also the high emotions all around the country. Anger doesn't get anyone anywhere as you describe.
We had a rain storm last night that certainly freshened the air and gave the garden a much needed watering. Always love hearing that sound of a good downpour.
Jenny.

Cool
I was delighted to see our country get a mention in your poem Rhiannon. I hope you don't have trouble getting your commission from the Bulgarian Tourism Ministry. Sometimes mine takes an age to come.
It certainly is hot here but we manage to remain cool, in all senses of the word. Drinking Rodopi chai made with the rich spa waters that surface all around us soothes the body and the mind. And summer siestas are a wondrous idea.
I hope you get that rain and its byproducts that you wish for soon.

Rain really is a healer, isn't it? I felt that, yesterday out walking. I loved the rhythm at the start of your poem, too. Did I miss a matching rhyme for "dialogue"?

Rhiannon, In "summer heat tempers
Rhiannon, In "summer heat tempers get frayed and angers flame" I found it just the opposite, when it is hot people get tired and lazy, want to lie down and sleep, african time! Rain is usually just very calm and refreshing, peaceful joyful. Well, just not in extreme if it really is too much causing serious damage.
All the best! Tom

A short, powerful poem, which
A short, powerful poem, which captures two themes at once. Both eluding to emotions that contrast and make up who we are or can become. Thank you
