The cat's fiddle plays a wolf-tone
answered by a dog's lunatic howl.
The dish is old and cracked,
hidden in some dusty cupboard,
dreaming of what might have been
under a shining, cow-jumped moon -
if only she’d said "yes" to the runaway spoon.

I’ve always thought those old

I’ve always thought those old nursery rhymes were dark and not meant for children. Mother Goose and Grimms Fairytales were not warm and cuddly to me. You've captured that darkness in your ‘where are they now’ poetic parody of Hey Diddle Diddle. I loved the cracked dish's lament.
