On the bright side (IP)

Woke up late for the job interview,
No shower, no breakfast, no time for a brew.
The clock sneered ten; I cursed, I ran,
But on the bright side, I still had a plan.
The plan fell apart when I missed the bus,
I slipped in mud, I groaned at the fuss.
Rain soaked my clothes, wallet dropped in the drain—
But on the bright side, I’d just catch the train.
The train was delayed, then cancelled completely,
As announced on the tannoy all too discreetly.
Of course, then my phone died; my last coin was spent.
What did it matter, where I even went?
I wandered the streets with no place to go,
My stomach, it groaned as it echoed my woe,
Couldn’t recall how I’d ended up here—
Mud-streaked, and exhausted, my mind wasn’t clear.
Everything blurred, and time had collapsed,
Hours slipped by and moments elapsed
I was stumbling, mumbling, falling apart,
No rhythm, no rhyme, and a murmuring heart.
I found a bench, slumped down with a sigh,
Watched the last light drain from the sky.
Almost all quiet, though the persistent wind mocked,
Swallowed by darkness with a hole in my sock.
But on the bright side, I’ve still got my shoes,
And a bit of old gum I didn’t quite lose.
Though the night’s cold, I see the stars shine
And one day, I know, I'll make this world mine.

I thought you were going to
I thought you were going to end up waking up in bed! We had a competition once on the theme of 'Woke up this morning …', and I went for a series of dream/nightmare awakenings with disabilities which proved false at the true awakening, with much joy and sympathy! Rhiannon

It sounds like you were not
It sounds like you were not meant to have that job after all. Trains cancelled, mud, darkness and hunger, the modern UK summed up. We must look on the bright side though..

there's almost a bright side.
there's almost a bright side. I tend to slip on fate before I get there.

Thankyou for your IP response
Thankyou for your IP response, time and inclination to look up at the stars is a great idea of a bright side! Made me think of "We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars"
