Magic Of Youth

Dear diary...she comes and goes
like an old song from the past...
my younger self making dreamy
moments captured in essential
one time photos.
For one second recapturing my
youth, close my eyes and again
there I am almost attempting a
handstand...or at least trying,
this image carved out in my
mind.
As I think back wondering
where on earth this picture
was taken, drifts of hair now
etch my well worn face; that's
seen better days; hoping path
ahead gives me some ray of
hope.
This waiting game, when
hearing melodies that bring
back those carefree impressions,
resemble ocean tide that caresses
shore; ebbing and flowing, some
memories come crashing in like
waves upon rocks.
Occasionally when gazing out my
window; gulls fly, and I close eyes,
see a whirl of visions that circle
windmill fashion; then followed
by a Peter Pan moment swooping
down with his shadow. So my
younger self and I hold our breath
feeling the magic of youth.
Photo is my own.

You've captured so well that
You've captured so well that connection that remains with our younger selves. Sometimes we can hardly believe how the time has past. Hearing melodies and the sound of gulls can take you right back and often certain scents too. I remember walking on my hands in the garden and that feeling that anything was possible.

A magic that all too quickly
A magic that all too quickly passes. Mind you, some of us never grow up!

It's odd to me how half-scenes are etched there for no apparent reason. I've been thinking back a bit on some favourite toys from the beginning of youth for the IP.
Yes, it can be happy memories and thankfulness of what we were spared from, and the delights we had. But if we take God at his Word, the best is yet to come! Rh

Hi Jenny, thankyou for this
Hi Jenny, thankyou for this lovely poem, I can imagine you very clearly, looking up at the gulls :0) I love watching them too, sure they are enjoying flying, riding the wind :0) I have been thinking often about you as the days get closer to 11th. Glad your surgery assessment went well. I hope so much you will soon be moving about freely again. Best of all Luck XXX

Hi Jenny; you’ve captured the
Hi Jenny; you’ve captured the vitality of youthful days and the longing to relive it in your talented, poetic style. You bring the reader to a place of happy memories and youthful exuberance. The desire for a backward glance at those captured moments of our younger days is universal; we peek into our internal photo album with bitter-sweet pleasure. Aging is a process we cannot stop so it’s important to make all those pleasant memories in our youth, to warm us when the bones and days grow colder. And on a personal note Jenny, my friend, I am sending you a bushel of good thoughts and a sky filled with warm wishes for a successful op, and easy recovery.

Lady Grinning Soul
This waiting game, when
hearing melodies that bring
back those carefree impressions,
The first line of your poem brought back to me the first line of David Bowie's Lady Grinning Soul from more than fifty years ago.
So many old songs revive happy memories for me but then the melancholy sets in as I miss those past times that can never be repeated. Your writing matches my thoughts.
And your photograph is one of the best selfies I have ever seen.
Thanks for sharing such a wonderful poem.

My dad left us all these priceless beuatiful moments

That's a powerful image, that child-like connection linking younger days to older. Time goes so quickly but poetry can be timeless. Great stuff, Jenny.

If I could
If I could give my younger self advice, I would say, listen to the advice of older people.
Sure you'll understand. See you Jenny! Tom
