Singing

You sat next to me with
practised easiness
and i realised as i sang
that you too were singing
connected by the tune
sharing lyrics, meanings
I wanted to look at you
but i was driving
and we both knew anyway
You said thank you as
you got out of the car
and didn't look back.
I didn't want to look at you then
I didn't want to share my song
or sing what you were singing.
I switched the radio on and
turned it up loud
singing a new song
a song you didn't know
Then I stopped the car
and threw my CD far out
into the field.
