You Told Me I Could Touch You
In the indifference of night I awake
damaged from the harm
done in the wake of your goodness.
I am staggering with pity,
unable to remove you from me.
You told me to touch you
and I would feel the world.
You told me to listen to you sing
and hear the sun set.
I wanted to live as if there were two persons
inside me.
I wanted to emerge from the sea
and let the sun dry me.
But the pain you have loosed
Is a savage beast--
and I am suspended
from the reality of you.
In the dark
I see the glint of a blade.
Is it for me.
