A Troubled Mind
In the dead of the night in a deep troubled sleep
A vision appeared that I hoped I could keep
She spoke to me softly though nothing she said
She kept her thoughts hidden, concealed in her head
Whilst I to her my soul I revealed
And scars of past love, as yet still not healed
I reached out to touch her but she vanished from sight
Taking part of me with her like a thief in the night
For what can I give her? What does she need?
Have I wounded her heart? Have I caused it to bleed?
And if she returns what will she find?
An imperfect being, a sad tortured mind
Fatally flawed, a lost refugee
From all that I dreamed and hoped that I'd be
From young love's sweet dream I awoke then at last
And etched in my mind was a ghost from the past
Calling me softly on an ocean of tears
That I cried for love for the past forty years.
